10 June 2019. Legendary former Jaguar test driver and works racer, Norman Dewis OBE, has passed away aged 98. Dewis was Britain’s greatest ever test driver, having developed 25 of the most significant Jaguars ever over his 33-year career. Jaguar’s most famous models, including the Le Mans 24 Hours-winning D-type as well as the iconic E-type Jaguar XJ13 during assembly at Abbey Panels after the MIRA crash. In 1971 the Series 3 E-type was about to be launched with Jaguar's first production V12 engine. The publicity team wanted a shot of the XJ13 at speed for the opening sequence of the film launching the V12 E-Type.
